Lynnwood Art Exhibit

Artists Tatiana Garmendia and Tara McDermott display their work at the Lynnwood City Hall through Nov. 28.

Garmendia is an inter-disciplinary artists with a figurative twist. Her work synthesizes formal concerns and a humanist engagement with history and culture. She uses her own experience with political and societal unrest to fuel her art. Ten percent of sales from this series will be donated directly to VA Puget Sound Health Care System.

McDermott is a photographic artist who explores ideas of beauty and fantasy in the natural world. She has expanded from straight photography to incorporating encaustic and other media and by using layered film collaged imagery. She takes photos with a vintage film-based Hasselblad medium-format camera and occasionally with a handmade teak pinhole (lensless) camera.

Come take a look: Lynnwood City Hall, 19100 44th Ave W, Lynnwood, WA

Long time NW band Filé Gumbo has been at it for 30 years!

While they used the word ‘Zydeco’ in their name to let folks who’d see the listing in the newspaper know that they were going to hear Louisiana sounds on accordion and scrubboard, the band never predominantly played that specific groove, but rather drew a lot of material from New Orleans R&B and Rock ‘n Roll, also playing Cajun music, Swamp Pop, Swamp Blues and Dixieland Jazz as well as a couple Zydeco standards and songs that fit that groove.

Some highlights have included opening shows, performing at festivals over the years plus countless community concerts, the Folklife Festival, weddings, corporate events and other private functions.
